Rolex built the Explorer II for cave explorers, volcanologists, and polar expeditions: the orange 24-hour hand and fixed 24-hour bezel tell day from night where there’s no daylight, and track home time when you travel. It’s just as good in a slot canyon, on a caving or camping trip, on a long flight, or at dinner.

Condition: Good, with very minor scratches on both sides of the case and a few minor ones on the caseback and clasp (usual wear). The Explorer II was built for places where you can’t count on the sun. Rolex made it for cave explorers, volcanologists, and polar expeditions: people working deep underground where it’s dark all day, or near the pole where in summer it never gets dark at all. The orange 24-hour hand and the fixed 24-hour bezel tell you at a glance whether it’s 2 in the afternoon or 2 in the morning. That same hand makes it a great travel watch. Set it to home time and you always know what time it is back home, whatever time zone you’ve landed in.
You don’t need an expedition to use one. Take it down a slot canyon outside St. George, where the light disappears a few turns in, or into a lava tube on a caving trip. Wear it on a camping weekend under the stars, on a long international flight with home time on the orange hand, and to a nice dinner when you get back. The white “Polar” dial with black-outlined markers is about as legible as a watch gets, in the dark or in bright sun.
This one is a complete set: full box and papers, hang tag, warranty card dated July 2024, and Rolex warranty until 2029. It’s the current 226570 generation, introduced in 2021 with the Calibre 3285 and its 70-hour power reserve. Condition is honest Good, with light wear described below.
